Welcome to "A Good Day for Art"
Thank you for visiting! I am happy to be offering workshops and classes in Denver and its surrounding areas. I am also now SKYPEing with an out of town student, so even if you are not in the Denver metro area we can still connect in our dedicated pursuit of art.
It is my belief that it is important for people to use their creativity in order to feel balanced and whole. My quick philosophy on “why we need to create” is based on how our brains work.
Most of our waking time is spent in left-brain analytical thinking. Here we plan, plot, and proceed through most of our activities in a logical and orderly manner. This is good. This is the grocery list for our days. This is also boring. Our right brain is our creative, intuitive, humorous place of our thinking. Here we daydream, imagine, and explore our possibilities. The boundaries are loose, there is no list, and this is good.
Art making uses our left brain to find a class or workshop and then drive us there, and then moves over so our right brain can have some fun! Art making is healing as it integrates our left and right brain thinking to explore new possibilities, and find new ways to express ourselves. When making art the right brain come to the stage for some “shine time”. Imagination can now take hold and move you from the fast lane to the fragrant meadow.
I have created a diverse series of workshops and classes that can stimulate your right brain thinking in new ways. I have drawn upon my years as an educator to ensure that your time with me will be both enjoyable and well spent and that your creations will reflect who you are, not who I am.
I have been an educator for most of my life. I have taught workshops and classes as well as consulted for corporate team building using art as a platform. I began teaching in Calgary Alberta when my children were very young. I taught fabric arts with the Calgary Board of Education in their recreation department. This was my first paid teaching job and I found I was drawn to teaching and fascinated by the creative output of my students. I also taught for the University of Alberta and Lakeland College in Vermillion, Alberta. While I was teaching I was also actively engaged in creating art. With two young daughters in the house it helped me get through those long Canadian winter days...I have also taught in the education department of the Denver Art Museum, Denver University's University for Youth, Denver Public Schools, and the Colorado Art Education Association.
Using my background in teaching, I have created a series of art classes and workshops that are stimulating yet simple. The classes are designed so that everyone, regardless of art training, can successfully create art. A variety of workshops and classes can move you into art making in as little as 2 hours!
I am drawing on extensive knowledge and an enduring love of art and art practices when I teach workshops and classes. It has been my privilege to teach more than 2000 students in the enriching process of art making. After many years of teaching young children, I am now turning my attention to adults. All of my current classes are created and taught with adult learners in mind. Everyone over 17 years old is encouraged to attend. You do not need any prior art knowledge or training to take one of these workshops and succeed. I have created workshops where all skill levels are welcome.
Click on any word link above the pictures on this page for information on upcoming workshops and classes. If you have any questions please phone or email me. I also teach privately if you find this more suitable.
Please join me on this exciting journey into art. Today is "A Good Day for Art!"
I look forward to meeting you and sharing our art experience.
